Overview
This technology policy workshop co-hosted with the Salem Center for Policy at UT Austin is an intensive two-day professional development program for early-career policy researchers and advanced PhD students who want their work to shape real-world decision-making—especially in technology and innovation policy.
Participants will receive hands-on training in persuasive policy writing, learning how policymakers actually read and use research, how to craft compelling memos, and how to translate complex academic ideas into clear, actionable policy outputs. The program also includes a timely primer on the AI and tech policy landscape, covering key agencies, major debates, and under-explored research opportunities where emerging scholars can make a meaningful impact.
Through interactive sessions, guided use of new research tools, and substantive engagement with peers and mentors, attendees will leave with sharpened communication skills, deeper policy fluency, and stronger professional networks. Designed for scholars interested in advancing classical liberal perspectives in policy research, the program fosters long-term collaboration and supports participants as they pursue placements and careers in think tanks, academia, and policy institutions.
