Overview
Join the Institute for Humane Studies for a two-day, in-person graduate papers workshop on “Economic Freedom and Human Flourishing,” hosted in partnership with Dr. Nabamita Dutta and Dr. Adam Stivers (University of Wisconsin-La Crosse). Held in La Crosse, Wisconsin, on June 5–6, this workshop offers PhD students and postdoctoral researchers the opportunity to present paper drafts and receive detailed, constructive feedback from peers and faculty discussants.
We welcome research on the relationship between economic freedom and human flourishing, including its role in generating prosperity and economic abundance and its effects on well-being, development, and social mobility. Topics may include markets and institutions, entrepreneurship and innovation, inequality and poverty, and public choice, as well as historical, philosophical, and sociological perspectives on freedom and flourishing, including culture, norms, and institutional change.
Participants will deepen their research, engage in substantive discussions, and connect with a community of scholars investigating the logic, institutions, and causes of economic freedom and human flourishing. IHS will provide all participants with a $200 honorarium and a stipend to offset lodging, transportation, and travel-related meal expenses. All meals during the workshop itself will be provided by IHS.
